Coxa valga is a deformity of the proximal femur with the femoral neck-shaft angle (NSA) > 135°. Combined with a “flat” acetabular cavity (frequently), it preconditions hip biomechanics distortions and fast ruination of articular cartilage. In almost all cases, the disease results from a congenital hip pathology – dysplasia.
This disorder is almost incurable for conservative treatment. However, in the very beginning, when the articular surfaces have not undergone pathological changes, a high-tech corrective osteotomy could eliminate the deformity.
Unfortunately, having progressed, dysplastic coxarthrosis or Coxa valga at its 3rd-4th stages demands hip arthroplasty (replacement).
