Surgical treatment of bon eand joint tumors

Benign tumors removal within the limits of a healthy bone takes place as an independent surgical intervention (e.g. osteochondroma) or combined with a preventive osteosynthesis (to strengthen the bone).

Osteochondroma in the right femoral neck. The result of the removal of the tumor with the preventive osteosynthesis

If the tumor is located close to a nerve or a vessel, the pre-surgical preparation should include MRI, contrasted CT, and manufacturing a 3D-printed anatomical layout-prototype.

Femoral bone osteochondroma, pressing over the gluteal nerve. Osteochondroma of the ilium close to the branches of gluteal artery

If the tumor is inside the bone, after the defect removal, the lesion shall be filled in with special bone-plastic material; within a time, it will transform into the healthy bone.

Surgical treatment of bone and joint tumors

The treatment of malignant bone tumors means wide removal of the tumor, sometimes – with the extremity itself. If it is possible to save the limb, an oncological prosthetic treatment of bone dyaphyses and joints takes place.

Surgical treatment of bone and joint tumors Chondrosarcoma G1 of the ilium on the right (conditions after the hip arthroplasty). For the first time in Ukraine, the author has carried out the resection of pelvic bones with the implantation of the individual anatomical 3D-printed prosthesis

Osteosarcoma of the left femoral diaphysis. For the first time in Ukraine, the author has carried out femoral shaft replacement using an individual 3D-printed anatomical implant

Oncological hip arthroplasty

If a tumor is discovered in the hip area, the oncological hip arthroplasty is used to preserve the limb and recover its functions. This surgical intervention is rather complicated because it stipulates the removal a significant segment of the target bone. The prosthesis for such a surgery must be specially produced for each individual patient.

Oncological knee arthroplasty

In cases of malignant and some benign tumors of bones that form a knee joint, surgeons remove the destroyed bone and install a revision linked endoprosthesis with an individual 3D-printed insert, of a special oncological prosthesis.

A timely operation can prevent amputation of a limb and recover its lost functionality.
